wall art, murals of NEPA

* Sean Brady artwork on display on Market Street, Wilkes Barre.

As I've been around doordashing through Wilkes-Barre area, I've past many murals. Curiosity has gotten me and I went searching to find out about these beautiful murals.

1. The Strange and Unusual.

Its a black and white mural located on the side of the Strange and Unusual Oddities Parlor with the Steamy Hallows coffee shop. I believe it started out as a Harry Potter themed. The shop has eclectic items from skulls, bugs, to collectibles and t-shirts. With the pandemic the seats that usually are occupied by customers are now filled with skeletons.

2. Below the Surface

This is probably one of my favorites. The colors just jump off the wall. It is located at Empire Arcade and features two native species of turtles - the red-eared slider and a painted turtle swimming in a pool of bright aqua water.

3. Common Grounds Coffee Shop

Who couldn't love this creature? I'd love to give credit to the artist but it don't know who it is, sorry.

4. Canteen Park - origami Crane

Again I don't know who the artist and cant seem to find it. But the restaurant and artwork are all unique. This is a restaurant I would like to try.

5. Like a Tree, You Have Deep Roots

This mural is located in Pittston (which is the quality Tomato capital). When looking at the tree one can wonder is it growing apples or tomatoes. Either way it is the tree of life with a woman posing in a yoga position. It is located by a praying garden so the ideal of mentally, spiritually, and physically coming together to form the community is evident.

5. Migrant Coal Miners

Pittston was in the heart of Pa. Anthracite Coal region. It had the first established mine (1775) and then as it grew it also had a railroad center. This all ended in 1959 with the Knox Mine Disaster. But it didn't stop Pittston who then became a national center for clothing manufacturing for 20 years. To bring people back and make the empty store fronts thriving again they began to create murals. This mural is stunning making the works seem so alive.

Again I don't know who the artist is for this one.

6. Aerosol Alley

To me this mural is a depiction of the area including the modern windmills.

7. 900 Rutter Ave, Forty Fort, pa.

This entire building from the outside to the inside is just one art work after another. I could do a complete post on just the artwork here. Also the restaurant that is the anchor, The Canning House looks so inviting, I must try it out.

See you at the next bend in the road,
Kelli
