Timeline in the creation of Myrtle Beach * 16th Century: The Waccanamaw and Winyah Indians named the region “Chicora” meaning land. The roadway we call Kings Highway was originally a Indian trail. As The Europeans settled in the colonies that Indian Trail connected the northern states to Savannah (through Charleston of course). There isn’t much written history of the Indians in this area but there are artifacts proofing their existence in the area. * 1900’s: The town was virtually uninhabited due to the poor economy and geographical inaccessibility. Then came BURROUGHS & COLLINS COMPANY. They began to develop the area into a resort. A Beach front hotel named Seaside Inn. The ocean front lots were $25 and the company created an incentive of a second lot if the house you built was valued at least $500.
