Low Country Oyster Festival 2022
Who’s looking to shuck over 6,000 Oyster? That would be me this year. Ok maybe not 6,000 more like 10 but I did shuck them. |

PLACE: Boone’s Plantation, Mt. Pleasant, SC
FACTS:
* The world largest Oyster Festival
*Both Chesapeake Bay and Low-country Oysters
*Food Trucks, Restaurant Booths
*Live music
*Contests - both shucking and eating
*food tickets need to be purchased when arriving.
THOUGHTS:
*liked the Chesapeake Bay Oysters more
*Go to Food trucks and booths early, lines get long and I really mean long.
*arrive early and stake a spot to sit.
*there was a lot of oysters, recycled
ITEMS to bring with you:
*paper towels
*tea towels (old)
*ziplock bags
*baby wipes
*oyster knives and gloves
*folding table & chairs
*family &friends
Oyster facts:
*been around since the dinosaurs.
*can be eaten raw, steamed, or cooked.
* Group of oysters is called a bed or reef. I found out that they recycle the shells to help replenish the bed/reefs.
* It was once assumed that oysters were only safe to eat in months with the letter 'r'. This was based on the fact that the months without “R” are warmer months and the oysters will spoil quickly.
* excellent source of iron, calcium, and zinc. Well now I know when my iron is low move over Beets I’m headed for an oyster bar.
