All the presidents men

These might not all be presidents but they were influencers. (L-R, Stephen F Austin, Samuel Houston, Abe Lincoln, and George Washington) The busts were created by sculptor David Adickes. His studio is located in Houston and the following pictures are from his studio.  He is also the creator of the Sam Houston statue that I talked about here.  I understand that his busts were put into a park in Virginia but it was demolished and now you can tour the ruins with John Plashal Photo. You know that at some point this amateur photographer plans on going. 

So who is this? My final guest is: James Garfield, second guess: Rutherford B Hayes. Who do you think it is?


And  I think using my Sherlock Holmes detective skills I have deduced that this is Benjamin Harrison. Am I right? 


These presidents were easy to figure out. I even got the ones that were behind or sideways in the picture. I think I know my presidents. How many presidents can you name?


As I was researching David Adickes, I came across an article that referenced a move of  one of his sculpture “We ❤ Houston.” It now can be found on Katy Freeway Service Road  between Bonner E Street and Bass Street.

  DESTINATION AWAITS: Daily I drive by this historic site. Today I decided turn into the site and explore. First mistake was not knowing that the museum was "closed for the season." I'm wondering what season it's closed for? I think maybe winter but since we are into spring I'm not so sure. But entire park is closed on Monday and Tuesday. There is a note to go to Fort Moultrie to get the map which you need to walk the trails in the area. Hunting Island State Park

 Destination Awaits:  So after a long day of driving from Mt. Pleasant to Battle of River Bridges to Lake Warren and down to Beaufort. I hit the last of today’s state parks. This is park #9 only 35 more to go. At least I have until April of next year, plenty of time. Address: 2555 sea island parkway, Hunting Island, SC Just the facts (brief History): *5 miles of beach, turtles nesting areas are cordon off for protection *Got its name because it was once used for hunting deer, waterfowl, and raccoon. I didn’t see any of those wild animals but did see an alligator trying to cross the road. *Original lighthouse built in 1859 but destroyed in the civil war.  *rebuilt in 1875. Built with removable cast iron plates so air could be moved and rebuilt if necessary *1889 erosion led to it being dismantled and relocated *remained active until 1933 *currently the lighthouse is closed due to repairs. Day of exploring SC

DESTINATION AWAITS:  Today we hit several SC state Parks (Poinsett and Santee) We hiked one of the trails. Beautiful countryside. It is known as the “mountains of the midlands.” I can see why. It was hilly and definitely we were out of the lowcountry. There was various things to see: a pond where you could swim or canoe. There are a dozen or so different hiking trails of different levels. Went to Buc-cee’s in FLorence. This was not the day to go because it seemed everyone on route 95 south and north also wanted to check out buc-cee’s too. Also in FLorence we stopped at the store Rival A house Divided.
