Houston we have a problem (Part I)

Well the only problem we have is the heat! But the AC in the house and car have been great to counter attack the heat!

First stop on the Houston tour is the Beer House thats what it is…… a house made of flattened beer cans. The owner John Milkovisch started this house project in 1968. He began in laying of marbles, rocks, and metal pieces forming into unique landscaping, finishing the backyard before he started inside. He added aluminum siding aka beer cans. It took 18 years for the house to be completely covered in flattened beer cans. He created garland using cut beer cans that hung from the roof edges.  It is open on Saturday and Sunday for tours.

Moving on to the Cloud Column. It is smaller but similar to the Chicago Bean. Ok it stands upright and not on its side. This was put up in March 2018 but was built in 2006 in England then transport here.

Next came on a mistake in my navigation, aka a detour. The Monument Au Fantome is in the Discovery Green. The sculpture represents the different features of Houston, like chimney, church, dog, hedge, mast, phantom and a tree. Once you know that you are looking at you can see the different things that make up the sculpture.

This sculpture is the Personage and Birds and was created in 1970. It’s an abstract consisting of painted bronze and stainless steel.

The Waterwall park is in the heart of the city. This is located at 2800 post oak blvd. open from 8 am-10 pm.  The waterfall is 64 foot high semi-circular wall. The solute of water recycling of inner system is 46,500 gallons and outer recycles 35,000 gallons. 11,00 gallons of water per minute cascade down the walls.

Last of today’s tour was the armadillo on Kirby Street at the Good Company Armadillo Palace.  It is a place where you can have true Texas food, music and culture all wrapped into one place. Texas food is made up of salt of the gulf, the soul of the south, a bit of spice of the past (aka Mexico), and sweet smoke of Texas.  Oh and best part at night the Armadillo’s eyes glow red!

See you at the next bend in the road,

Kelli
