Destination awaits:

After exploring the ruins of Old Sheldon Church I drove through Beaufort and found these ruins. It had a different vibe than the first one.

Just the facts (brief history):

*built in 1740 for a Christian worshipers on the island. (Plantation owners)
*Chapel of Ease due to the hardship is would have been to trek to the St. Helena Church in Beaufort.
*made of tabby walls
*during the civil war plantation owners left, leaving slave to fend for themselves. They were no longer enslaved but also not free.
*Northern missionaries came down to help educate and gaining support from the federal government in the “port royal experiement”
* Burned in a forest fire in 1886
