Battle At Rivers Bridge

Destination Awaits:

 The State Park of todays destination we go back in time to the civil war. This is the only historic site in SC that preserves a civil war battlefield in the state park system.

Just the facts (brief History):

* Battle took place Feb 2-3, 1865 (Final months of the civil war)
* 1,200 confederate soldiers took a stand on the Salkehatchie River against Maj. Gen Sherman’s about 5,000 troops.
* Union soldiers crossed the swollen swamp on both ends of the confederate line to win the battle.

Tips to know before going:

* See when the guided tour is available (Saturday with a fee)
* read up on the battle 
*  Here are a few names of soldiers from the battle.

*Battle of Rivers Bridge Museum
*check out the historic cemeteries
*walk the two trails.
