  After visiting Fort Towson the employee sent me to Fort Towson Cemetery and he told me to go over the stone wall and down the path, this is where the last confederate general surrender his command. He couldn’t remember what his name was but that was easy to find out, thank you google. General Stand Watie, a Native American, realizing he was fighting a losing battle, he surrendered his unit on June 23, 1865. The men where Cherokee, Creek, Seminole, and Osage Indians.  Born in 1806 to a Cherokee father and mixed race mother (half-Cherokee, half-European). He was born with he given Cherokee name Degataga which means “stand firm.” But later his father was baptized in a Moravian church as David Uwatie, and his father changed his name to Isaac S Uwatie. Growing up Stand went to Moravian school.  For about a few minutes I hung out on University of Alabama, Go Red Tide. Then I ventured around the town. First I tried to find the Fallon Robot. It was hard since several streets were closed off but I found it. The Fallon robot is called Goldie 1971. She was created by alumnus Joe McCreary.  The robot is 23 feet long and made from scrap iron cast by a furnace. The reason for the name is supposedly it was graffiti left by a welder that was discovered by McCreary while he was making her. Then I went to find the Running Minerva. She’s the Roman Goddess but dressed up more like modern woman or the dancer she was modeled after. . Frozen in motion on top of a 30 foot curved chrome beam.  Then I stopped at the information center. Where there was a statue of a boxer, Deontay Wilder. He is the heavy weight champion, 2015-2020.   Just a heads up, my favorite website is roadside America . It has the craziest places to stop on the road to see. Some not worth the time, some very hard to find (even with directions), and some you just scratch your head.  Today’s stops were graves and statues. The Statue I had a hard time finding it but it is pretty cool looking. I found the town very quaint and I definitely want to go back and just walk around the town, exploring more. So King George II decreed 1732 this town and it was named Fredericksburg, but in 1758 it changed its name to Pine Tree Hill until Joseph Kershaw changed the it to Camden in honor of Charles Pratt, Lord Camden, and early advocate of the colonies in the Parliament. Joseph Kershaw established a branch office of a Charleston mercantile firm. Later he became its first mayor.   Timeline in the creation of Myrtle Beach * 16th Century: The Waccanamaw and Winyah Indians named the region “Chicora” meaning land. The roadway we call Kings Highway was originally a Indian trail. As The Europeans settled in the colonies that Indian Trail connected the northern states to Savannah (through Charleston of course). There isn’t much written history of the Indians in this area but there are artifacts proofing their existence in the area. * 1900’s: The town was virtually uninhabited due to the poor economy and geographical inaccessibility. Then came BURROUGHS & COLLINS COMPANY. They began to develop the area into a resort. A Beach front hotel named Seaside Inn. The ocean front lots were $25 and the company created an incentive of a second lot if the house you built was valued at least $500.  The company wanted to change the town name from Long Bay to something else. Boone Farm Sunflowers This lovely flower is prefect for the summer and of course will brighten up your day, room, or house and help so reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. They got there name because young plans have there faces going you guessed it…. towards the sun. The Greek named it Helios Arthus meaning sun & flower. The flower represents loyalty and adoration. So next time you get a bouquet with sunflowers it’s a happy flower with positive means. Chinese believe this flower symbolizes long life, vitality, and good luck. Oh bring me a nice bouquet!  The sunflower is a native to North America and was first grown 4500 years ago by indigenous tribes. Evidence suggests that the sunflower may have been domesticated before corn. Over time the plant crops have multiple uses from milling for flour, use of seeds into granola, and extracting the oils for cooking. But bet you didn’t know it was also used for non-food uses such as pigments & oils for sunscreen, snakebite ointmen...

  Who’s looking to shuck over 6,000 Oyster? That would be me this year. Ok maybe not 6,000 more like 10 but I did shuck them.   DATE : February 6, 2022 PLACE : Boone’s Plantation, Mt. Pleasant, SC FACTS : * The world largest Oyster Festival *Both Chesapeake Bay and Low-country Oysters *Food Trucks, Restaurant Booths *Live music *Contests - both shucking and eating *food tickets need to be purchased when arriving. THOUGHTS : *liked the Chesapeake Bay Oysters more *Go to Food trucks and booths early, lines get long and I really mean long. *arrive early and stake a spot to sit. *there was a lot of oysters, recycled ITEMS to bring with you: *paper towels *tea towels (old) *ziplock bags *baby wipes *oyster knives and gloves *folding table & chairs *family &friends Oyster facts: *been around since the dinosaurs. *can be eaten raw, steamed, or cooked. * Group of oysters is called a bed or reef.   * Sean Brady artwork on display on Market Street, Wilkes Barre. As I've been around doordashing through Wilkes-Barre area, I've past many murals. Curiosity has gotten me and I went searching to find out about these beautiful murals.  1. The Strange and Unusual.  Its a black and white mural located on the side of the Strange and Unusual Oddities Parlor with the Steamy Hallows coffee shop. I believe it started out as a Harry Potter themed. The shop has eclectic items from skulls, bugs, to collectibles and t-shirts. With the pandemic the seats that usually are occupied by customers are now filled with skeletons.  Art work by Karilyn Alex 2. Below the Surface This is probably one of my favorites. The colors just jump off the wall.
